Brighten Up Your Winter Days

With dark days ahead and vacations off the schedule I thought I'd share some quick tips for cozying up your home for the winter with lighting. Nothing makes a bigger difference for mood than the lighting in your home!

#1 — Placement: Look at all the rooms and see where the dark corners are, then add some light with floor lamps or table lamps. Placing light in the corner illuminates two walls and brings the overall level up. It also creates a focal point and good cozy overall illumination.

#2 — Types of Lighting: For those corners, use a torchere (pictured below) or floor lamp (not a reading light or task light) so the light bounces off walls or ceiling.

A table lamp will also do the trick. Place it on a console in your living room or a dresser in the bedroom.

Looking for something a little more moody? There are soo many cute flameless candles out there - or drape string lights around a door, a mirror, or across a console. Put a timer on for the afternoon and voila, instant cheer!

#3 — Bulbs: Use 2700k-3000k bulbs. These might be called warm white, but the color temp is often listed on the box. . LED’s come in several color temperatures, The “daylight” bulbs tend to look cold and definitely UN-cozy!
