If you are a ‘local’, you may have donated used clothing, furniture and bric-a-brac (one of my favorite words) to one of Housing Works' Brooklyn stores. Well, every year they do a fundraiser featuring interior designers, and this year I was thrilled to be picked as one of Brooklyn’s ‘Top 20 Designers’ to participate in their Design on a Dime Brooklyn Outpost (I say I was ‘thrilled’ but truth was I was panicked).
The way it works is the designers get furniture donated, and create a 10'x10’ room. I decided to do something I've always wanted, so I created a ‘chic beach-house’ dining room. I’ve gotten some great donations, and they will be on sale during the event, which is open to the public on October 7th through 9th along with all the items from the other room vignettes. Need another reason to go? Everything is up to 80% off retail, so it’s a savvy-shopper’s dream. It takes place at Industry City (Factory Floor), which if you haven’t been yet is a great destination in itself. Some cool retailers have opened shop there, as well as food vendors, and it’s just plain old Brooklyn hip and right on the waterfront. And a big shout out to the wonderful folks who have donated to my vignette, including Currey & Co., IndoTeak, Saddleman's, Caroline Z Hurley, Sentient Furniture, Palecek, Fortuny, Framing by Nadia, and Lilojones.com
